The Bison was chosen for the gate, because like the American Indian it is synonymous with the American West. When Europeans first came to America, the bison ranged east all the way into Virginia, and numbered 60 million or more.

They bison were essential to the Plains Indians culture, and economy. The Indians freedom,and independence also depended on these animals.
